TOLL PLAZA NEW LAKHANPUR

          Lakhanpur being the gateway and entry point of entire surface transport to the state of Jammu & Kashmir from outside the state, assumes a great significance for functioning of Excise and Commercial Taxes Departments. Two major check posts i.e Excise Toll Post and Commercial Taxes check post are located at this point. The function of Excise Toll Post is levy and collection of toll tax (basic and additional toll) from incoming and outgoing vehicles whereas the function of Commercial Taxes Check Post is assessment and collection of various taxes under J&K VAT Act, J&K Entry Tax Act, J&K Passenger Tax Act and C.S.T. Act.

        More than 1 Lac vehicles cross the Toll Post monthly on import and export side. The increasing volume and pressure of traffic causes congestion and traffic jamming at this point, which not only causes lot of inconvenience to the general public but also effects the smooth functioning of these two important check posts

        The existing toll post which was constructed in year 1985, is more than two decades old, but the space available is insufficient to handle ever increasing volume of traffic smoothly.

       Lakhanpur, with Excise Toll Post and Commercial Taxes Check Post is the source of major share of revenue collection to the State Government, because goods imported from outside the state or exported from state are subjected to levy, collection and assessment of various taxes. The construction of toll plaza with sufficient space, parking yard and other modern facilities will enhance the scope for better management in assessment and collection of taxes and bring efficiency in over all working.

SALIENT FEATURES OF TOLL PLAZA LAKHANPUR

      The proposed Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur is being constructed on the right side of the New Bridge and on the eastern side of the Railway line. As per proposal, the Toll  Plaza will be spread over an area of 156 + Proposed Railway Land of 108 Kanals. The proposed complex  shall have the facilities of single window clearance besides following facilities :-

•         Shelter shed for drivers

•         Animal Husbandry Complex

•         Recreational Centre

•         Office Block

•         Parking Yard

•         Dhabas

•         Toilet Blocks

•         Provision for water Supply

•         Augmentation programme for power development

       The Toll Plaza will have 9 Weigh bridges for incoming Traffic and separate passage for Light Motor Vehicles, Army traffic etc;

       Infact the above facilities shall lead to decongestion of Lakhanpur to a greater extent and remodelling as a beautiful town, devoid of traffic jamming and pollution. The parking space for about 240 trucks shall provide a lot of relief to the general public, carriers , drivers and government men and machinery for operational activities viz. checking, frisking, calculating , testing live stock/equipment and data store/transmission.
